Gilchrist County Board of County Commissioners is seeking a dedicated and responsible Animal Control Officer to join our team. This position plays an important role in ensuring the health, safety, and welfare of both the community and its animals.
Key Responsibilities:

Enforce state laws and local ordinances related to animal control.

Respond to calls regarding stray, injured, or dangerous animals.

Safely capture, transport, and care for animals as needed.

Provide daily care for animals housed in the shelter, including feeding, cleaning, monitoring health, and assisting with adoptions.

Investigate complaints of neglect, cruelty, or nuisance animals.
-
Educate the public on animal welfare, licensing, and responsible pet ownership.

Maintain accurate records, reports, and documentation.
Preferred Qualifications:
-
Certification as an Animal Control Officer (or the ability to obtain certification within a specified timeframe).

Prior experience in animal control, animal care, or law enforcement is highly desirable.

Strong communication, problem-solving, and customer service skills.

Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
-
Must be comfortable working outdoors in various conditions and handling animals of all sizes and temperaments.
Minimum Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent.

Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
-
Willingness to complete training as required.
