MAINTENANCE WORKER II

Position: Maintenance Worker
Department: County Maintenance
Pay Rate: $17.00 per hour
Status: Full-Time

The Gilchrist County Board of County Commissioners is accepting applications for a full-time Maintenance Worker. This is a hands-on position responsible for performing general maintenance, repairs, and upkeep of County buildings, grounds, facilities, and other County-owned property.Must be able to meet all eligibility requirements and be approved for inmate supervision

The ideal candidate will be dependable, self-motivated, and experienced in a variety of general maintenance and repair tasks. Applicants should be comfortable working both independently and as part of a team and willing to assist wherever needed to keep County facilities safe, clean, and properly maintained.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform general maintenance and repairs to County buildings, facilities, and grounds

  • Perform minor plumbing repairs, including replacing faucets, repairing leaks, unclogging drains, and replacing plumbing fixtures

  • Perform light carpentry, including repairing doors, trim, shelving, cabinets, fencing, and other structures

  • Perform minor electrical-related maintenance, such as replacing light fixtures, bulbs, switches, and outlets when appropriate

  • Perform painting, drywall patching, caulking, and other general building repairs

  • Assist with preventative maintenance of County facilities and equipment

  • Perform basic grounds and exterior facility maintenance as needed

  • Inspect buildings and facilities for maintenance or safety concerns and report needed repairs

  • Safely operate hand tools, power tools, lawn equipment, and other maintenance equipment

  • Assist with moving furniture, equipment, supplies, and materials

  • Respond to maintenance requests from County departments

  • Maintain County tools, equipment, vehicles, and work areas in a safe and orderly condition

  • Assist with inmate work crews when assigned and properly certified

  • Follow all County safety policies and procedures

  • Perform other related duties and assist other County departments as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred

  • Previous experience in building, facility, construction, or general maintenance work

  • Hands-on experience in areas such as plumbing, light carpentry, painting, basic electrical maintenance, grounds maintenance, or general repairs

  • Ability to safely operate common hand and power tools

  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions

  • Ability to work independently and prioritize assigned tasks

  • Ability to perform physical work, including lifting, carrying, bending, climbing, and working indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions

  • Must possess a valid Florida driver’s license

  • Must be willing and able to obtain required Florida Department of Corrections certification for inmate supervision, if assigned

Experience in multiple areas of building or facility maintenance is preferred.

Work Schedule

Monday – Friday, with occasional after-hours, weekend, or on-call work as needed.
